Mexico HIT by major 6.6 magnitude earthquake
The earthquake hit near the coast of Chiapas, close to the border with Guatemala. The quake was also felt in Mexico city where high-rise buildings shook. The epicenter of the quake hit at a depth of 42 miles (68 km) near the Pacific coast and Mexico's border with Guatemala, according to the USGS.
A resident said on Twitter: "We felt the house shake for 20-25 seconds. Just another adventure. — at Municipalidad de Santa Lucia Milpas Altas."
An official with emergency services in Chiapas said that he felt the quake but that he did not see any immediate damage.
